My computer’s down, so I’m going to be extra brief with this year’s Oscars predictions (iPads have their limitations... one of which is typing.) For those of you who actually care about the whys and why nots, I promise to do better next year. Until then, on with the picks.
Best Picture: 1917 (Watch out for Parasite, and our top choice (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.)
Best Actor: Joaquin Phoenix, The Joker
Best Actress: Renee Zelwegger, Judy
Best Supporting Actor: Brad Pitt, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood (I prefer Tom Hanks (for A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood) but Pitt appears unbeatable at the moment.)
Best Supporting Actress: Laura Dern, Marriage Story
Best Director: Sam Mendes, 1917 (Quentin Tarantino deserves it too, but my money’s on Mendes.)
Best Animated Feature: Toy Story 4 (Just a guess.)
Best Cinematography: Roger Deakins, 1917 (No-brainer.)
Best Foreign Language Film: Parasite (Another no-brainer.)
Best Adapted Screenplay: Greta Gerwig, Little Women (Everyone else says Jojo Rabbit, but I smell an upset.)
Best Original Screenplay: Parasite (Tarantino should win, but he’s won (this category) twice before.)
