Rutgers Tops Georgetown in Season Finale
The Georgetown men's lacrosse team wrapped up its 2014 regular season with a tough 12-8 loss to Rutgers in front of a spirited crowd of 1,354 at Multi-Sport Field. The Hoyas finished the season with a 4-10 record (1-5 in the Big East.) Freshman Peter Conley led the Hoyas with three goals and a game-high nine shots, providing plenty of optimism for Kevin Warne's squad as it looks ahead to next season.
The Hoyas slipped a bit in Warne's second season as head coach (Georgetown was 6-9, 3-3 in his first season) but they'll bring back five of their top six scorers from 2014... in addition to what should be a stellar recruiting class. Sadly, the Hoyas must say goodbye to standout defender Tyler Knarr, who leaves as Georgetown's season-season record holder for face-off wins (207) and ground balls (153.) Knarr was one of nine departing seniors honored before the game.

As for said game, Rutgers raced out to an early 2-0 lead in the first three minutes; and ultimately a huge 9-3 advantage at halftime. Scott Klimchak, the leading scorer for the Scarlet Knights scored in the first minute of the third quarter to extend the lead to 10-3, effectively putting the contest out of reach. To their credit, Georgetown outscored (and outshot) Rutgers 5-4/19-9 in the second half... part of a 36-29 advantage in shots for the game.

Freshman Devon Lewis and junior Charlie McCormick added two goals each in a losing cause, with Reilly O'Connor pacing the team in assists (2.) Redshirt junior Jake Haley made 11 saves in goal. Rutgers (8-7, 3-3) advances to its first-ever Big East tournament, where it will face national powerhouse Denver in the semi-finals later this week.
