Slate Wine Bar + Bistro to Host A Super Winemakers’ Event Featuring Spanish Wines

A wine lovers delight - Special cuisine with wine pairings and an opportunity to meet the winemakers

On Friday, March 22, 2019, Slate Wine Bar + Bistro will host a Super Winemakers’ event, a unique dining and wine pairing experience. Slate Wine Bar + Bistro Owner/Chef and Sommelier, Danny Lledó welcomes four winemakers, each from different vineyards and regions of Spain, to share their wines. One can experience pairings during an exclusive happy hour, or for full dinner service with the featured Spanish wines. Lledó’s culinary directive is influenced by his Mediterranean heritage with his family hailing from Spain and Portugal. His father is also an accomplished chef from Denia with cooking is in his blood.

Guests will meet and hear from makers from excellent wine producing regions of Spain including Carlos Fernandez Gomez from the winery Tierra, located in Rioja Alavesa, where they grow varieties such as tempranillo, red and white garnache, viura, graciano and the wonderful malvasia, which is grown in the oldest vineyards. Winemaker and vineyard owner, Miquel Coca i Fito, of Coca i Fito, an innovative and dynamic cellar of singular wines from Monsant - which produces remarkable late harvest sweet wines, one of which will be featured. Guests will meet Gonzalo Amigo of Madai, located at the northernmost limit of Bierzo, with steep, south-facing, slopes ideal for ripening grapes, and vines over 100 years old. This area produces very low yields with no fertilizers and minimal intervention. Winemaker Bingen Mendizabal of Itsamesndi, from Bizkaiko Txakolina will also be featured. Wines from this region are made with an intelligent blend of art and technology, entwined with sensitivity.

An artfully curated happy hour menu invites guests to indulge on Cajun Shrimp, Chicken & Ham Croquettes, Montaditos of Shishito Peppers, Cuttlefish, Crab Cake and Pork Cake, and Valencian Paella while enjoying red and white wines personally selected by Chef Lledó and the makers including Madai Origen Godello 2017; Jaspi Blanc Garnacha Blanca 2017; Madai Origen Mencia 2017 and Jaspi Negre Garnacha/Carignan 2016. Happy Hour is from 5 PM to 7 PM and is priced at $45 per person (excluding tax and gratuity.)

Dinner begins at 7 PM with Pan-Seared Scallops served with salmon caviar paired with Madai Sobre Lias Godello 2016 (Bierzo) and Butternut Squash Gnocchi with asparagus spears and fresh parmesan served with Itsasmendi Eklipse Pinot Noir 2015 (Bizkaiko Txakolina.) An Iberian feast, presented family style, includes Roasted Suckling Pig and Grilled Lamb Chops with delicious potatoes, baby rainbow carrots, crispy Brussel sprouts with julienne apples and chipotle aioli, delightfully paired with Jaspi Maragda Old Vine Garnacha/Carinena 2013 (Monsant) and Magnum El Belisario Old Vine Tempranillo 2012 (Rioja Alavesa.)
