BurgerFi Food Review IV

BurgerFi's Chicken Avocado BLT

I'm always looking for an excuse to revisit BurgerFi, so when they announced a new limited edition chicken sandwich, I knew I had to return to Silver Spring and try it out. The burger in question (BurgerFi's Chicken Avocado BLT) is a literal mouthful to get your head (and mouth) around. Grilled chicken breast with bacon, lettuce and tomato, a to-die-for honey mustard-BBQ sauce, white cheddar cheese (but not for me) and creamy avocado... tucked inside a fried patty. If that's not enough to peak your interest, you might want to check your pulse: There's a chance you may be dead.

I must admit: I was slow to get on the bandwagon for combining bacon and chicken. Don't get me wrong, I like love them both (just separately... like Martha Stewart and Snoop Dogg.) But once I tried it, I was hooked; so I decided to keep an open mind to the idea of adding avocado to the mix, especially fried avocado.

Be warned, you may have to wait a few minutes longer than you're used to (at least 10 minutes) but believe you me, it's worth it. BurgerFi's interior is warm and inviting, but not too warm (the A/C was working perfectly) and pretty much perfect, save for a sticky floor, which I'm assuming happened a short time ago (there always seems to be an employee walking around, looking for something to clean.) My favorite BurgerFi employee (Kayla) delivered my burger and Cry+Fry combo to my table, where it joined quite possibly the best new soda in the world... Fi Lime Fusion, a BurgerFi exclusive, a combination of sweet, tart and delicious if ever there was one. Here's hoping it finds a permanent place on their Coca-Cola Freestyle machine (and hopefully everyone else's.)

Cry+Fry

The burger itself is a mad masterpiece. Mad, in terms that some/most people may shy away at first, but ultimately a masterpiece in the way it combines so perfectly. For starters, the bacon was nice & thick with just enough salt to make it stand out against all those separate flavors. The lettuce was bright green and fresh, which helps visually, given the hidden nature of the avocado. I thought the chicken breast was a bit flat at first, but any bigger, and it would upset the balance. As for the star of the show, it's easy to confuse it with a vegetable patty (a la the Conflicted Burger) but once you bite into it, it's all cream and sinfulness. Frying it sounds bold, perhaps even dangerous, but it works. Best of all, the burger doesn't get too messy (although I passed on the cheese, which would make it even moister) and the bun stayed in tact, right up to the very last bite. Tying it all together, the aforementioned "to-die-for" BBQ/honey mustard sauce, which is as logical (and scrumptious) as it sounds. All in all, a close second to the sinfully delicious CEO for best burger on a menu already full of really good burgers.

Fi Lime Fusion

Drink refills are free (I refilled mine twice... I wasn't kidding, when I said it was the best new soda in the world.) Rounding out dinner, the Cry+Fry, which is usually a home run, but not this time. My onion rings were a little undercooked and subsequently flimsy, and the fries (though flavorful) were slightly dirty/overcooked. That said, I ate them all, so either I have really high standards or I'm a hypocrite. For argument's sake, let's choose the former. Overall? A solid triple with a good chance to steal home (to keep with the baseball analogy.)

The Chicken Avocado BLT Sandwich is only available for a limited time, so hurry in and try it. It also benefits a good cause, as $1 from each BLT goes to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital (three cheers!)
