Rotary Club of Dupont Circle Partners with Slate Wine Bar to Help Vulnerable Kids in India Get to School
The Rotary Club of Dupont Circle knows that the club can do more together than they could ever hope to do alone, which is why they have teamed up with VFF USA and Slate Wine Bar + Bistro to fund a bike project in Narpala. For high school students in the villages surrounding Narpala, a bike is all it takes to prevent them from being forced to drop out. “We are incredibly honored by Slate’s commitment to Rotary and VFF USA,” said Mandy Warfield, President of Dupont Circle Rotary Club.
Today, over 100 million children do not attend school in India and the literacy rate of girls from marginalized groups is below 35%. However, owning a bicycle makes the journey to school faster and safer, which improves attendance and graduation. VFF USA has been integral in supplying bicycles to children in villages across India. More than 7,000 students own a bike, enabling them to attend classes in schools. Join us to help raise funds to supply bicycles for 127 boys and girls in the Narpala area.
The Rotary Club of Dupont Circle and Slate Wine Bar + Bistro will host a wine tasting to support this important project. Chef Danny Lledó has crafted a unique wine flight series for guests. “Over the years, my love and devotion to food has only grown. Collaborating with causes like VFF USA inspire me as a chef. Being able to make people happy in the restaurant and around the world at the same time is really exciting,” says Chef Danny Lledó.
