Women's Basketball: Catholic 66 Drew 44

Cardinals Fly Over Rangers, 66-44

The Catholic University of America women’s basketball topped the Rangers of Drew University 66-46 in a Saturday afternoon Landmark Conference matchup.

With the win, the Cardinals advance their overall record to 15-6 while they move to 6-4 in the league.


Catholic senior Briana Bull completed a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. She added seven steals and two assists to help the Cardinals to the weekend victory.

Sydney Poindexter (#32) scored a career-high 15 points

Sophomore Sydney Poindexter put up double-digit points with a career-high 15 points while adding seven rebounds and four steals. Poindexter shot 5-of-7 from the free throw line helping the team to a collective .706 shooting percentage from the charity stripe.

Mollie Reynolds added 8 points, 5 rebounds & 3 steals

Catholic senior Samantha Cowan hit the opening layup of the game and sent the Cardinals on an 11-3 run through the first five minutes. Poindexter knocked down seven points in the first quarter while Cowan, Bull and sophomore Mollie Reynolds each had two and freshman CC Mooney sunk a free throw to outscore the Rangers 14-7.

Drew rallied in the second period, outscoring Catholic 18-17 and forcing the game to four lead changes over 10-minutes. Bull went 4-of-5 from the floor in the second quarter and Poindexter shot 2-of-3 to push Catholic to a 31-25 advantage at the break.

Junior Sarah O'Neill (#24) scored 7 points off the bench

Catholic gained a significant lead in the third with junior Sarah O'Neill shooting 2-of-3 from long range and Bull sinking 3-of-4 from the field. Reynolds and classmate Megan Stafford each added two points and Catholic gained its largest lead of the period (22-points) with a last-second layup from sophomore Caroline Sullivan.

Soph Megan Stafford (#5) grabbed 8 rebounds

Stafford hit a three-point shot with just under six minutes to play to create Catholic’s greatest margin of the game, 58-33 (25-points.) The Rangers fought back to outscore the Cardinals 15-13 in the quarter but they were unable to close the gap as they suffered their sixth league loss of the year.

 Freshman Maggie Rakowsky (#14) dished out 3 assists

Catholic gears up to travel to Selinsgrove, PA, on Wednesday, February 7 to take on the River Hawks of Susquehanna University at 7 PM.
