Marine Corps Heritage Foundation Hosts Annual Summer Concert Series at National Museum of the Marine Corps
Concert Series launches August 2 with a performance by the U.S. Navy Sea Chanters
The Marine Corps Heritage Foundation today announced the launch of its annual Summer Concert Series at the National Museum of the Marine Corps. In its eighth year, the series will feature three military bands performing musical numbers guaranteed to please the entire family this summer.
The United States Navy Band Sea Chanters will begin the Summer Concert Series on August 2 at 7:00 PM. As the official chorus of the United States Navy, the Sea Chanters perform throughout the United States singing traditional choral music, sea chanteys, patriotic fare, opera, Broadway and contemporary music. Founded in 1956, the Sea Chanters is led by Chief Musician Adam Tyler. The group has performed for the public across the United States and for U.S. presidents, vice presidents, and numerous congressional and, military leaders as well as foreign dignitaries.
The series continues August 16 with a performance by the U.S. Navy Band Commodores, the U.S. Navy’s premier jazz ensemble. The 18-member ensemble, led by Senior Chief Musician William C. Mulligan, performs an eclectic mix of traditional big band music, exciting jazz vocal arrangements, and new instrumental music. Founded in 1969, the ensemble arranges and writes most of the music performed.
On August 25, the series will conclude with a performance by the Quantico Marine Corps Band. As one of the oldest bands in the U.S. Marine Corps, the 50-member Quantico Marine Corps Band is made up of a ceremonial band and concert band that provide musical performances under the direction of the Commandant of the Marine Corps and the Commander of the Marine Corps Base in Quantico, Virginia.
The concerts will be held outdoors on the entry plaza to the Museum. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or picnic blankets. Concessions will be available and the Museum gift store and Tun Tavern will remain open until the concerts begin at 7:00 PM. Admission and parking are free. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be moved inside to the Museum’s Leatherneck Gallery.
