Citi Open 2017 - Day 2 Photo Recap

Alexios Halebian upset #3(Q) Marc Polmans

It rained cats and dogs yesterday; but today, nothing but blue skies (and huge crowds) for Day 2 of the Citi Open. American Alexios Halebian scored the biggest upset of the day, besting Aussie Marc Polmans in straight sets, 7-6 (7-5) 7-5. Polmans, the #3 seeded qualifier is ranked #84 in the world. Halebian is ranked 557. Halebian advances to tomorrow's main draw, where he'll face Lukas Lacko on Grandstand 2 (not before 4:00 PM.) Also victorious? Top seeded qualifier Ramkumar Ramanathan, who defeated Marinko Matosevic 7-5, 6-3. On the women's side, the #1, 2, 4 and 5 seeded qualifiers advanced, led by former Wimbledon champ (2016 Mixed Doubles) Heather Watson, who won an exciting second set tie-breaker over Japan's Shuko Aoyama, en route to a 6-3, 7-6 (9-7) victory.
