Espita Mezcaleria General Manager Josh Phillips (r)

From our friends at Espita Mezcaleria...

Josh Phillips and his team at Espita Mezcaleria, the Southern Mexican-inspired restaurant located in the Shaw neighborhood of Washington, DC, are excited to unveil their newest house mezcals imported from Santiago Matatlanon Sunday, April 30th. These mezcals have been sourced on trips to Oaxaca by Josh Phillips and his team, and Espita is excited to share this unique spirit with mezcal beginners and aficionados alike. In Oaxaca, house mezcals are the gems of the bar; each one is contracted directly from the mezcalero and frequently served humbly from unlabeled bottles. Espita is continuing this tradition with house mezcals made by their good friends, the Jimenez family in Santiago Mazatlán. Mezcals made by the Jimenez family are made from sustainable, bat friendly agaves from fields near Palenque. Their agave is cooked in a horno, an earthen pit oven, then macerated by a horse-drawn stone tahona, and fermented with wild yeast. The mezcal is then distilled twice in copper stills, which results in these beautiful traditional mezcals.

Espita is excited to offer their new exclusive house mezcal made from 100% Cuixe agave, pronounced "kweesh", which is a member of the Karwinskii family of agave varietals and bottled at 48% ABV.  This Cuixe will only be available until supply runs out at Espita. The Cuixe is priced at priced at $8 for 1oz., $15 for 2oz., or $40 for 6oz.  Espita also offers an Espadin and Tepextate by the Jimenez Family. On Sunday evening, Espita will be offering free 1oz. pours for the first 75 people that order a house Cuixe.

WHEN: Sunday, April 30th. Brunch is served from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM, and dinner is served from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
