St. Regis Washington, DC Appoints New Culinary Team at Decanter

The St. Regis Washington, DC (923 16th Street, NW, Washington, DC) welcomes Javier Cuesta Muñoz as executive chef, Thierry Delourneaux as executive pastry chef, and Andy Powell as wine director of Decanter, the hotel’s fine dining restaurant. With a new team in place, Decanter looks forward to combining classic techniques and innovative thinking with local ingredients to showcase its Mediterranean inspired cuisine and expertly curated wine list.

With over 20 years of industry experience, Muñoz’s diverse culinary and educational background in Spain, France, and Switzerland led to his culinary career accolades in notable five star resorts recognized for their culinary assets. He held the position of executive chef at The Landings in St. Lucia in the Caribbean, Buccament Bay Resort in St. Vincent in the Grenadines, as well as Hotel Barceló, Asia Gardens and Leading Hotels of the World in Alicante, Spain. Javier Cuesta Muñoz has been recognized throughout his career for being a visionary chef and leveraging in-depth knowledge of the marketplace and its competitive nature. His skill in adapting to complex menus and making them his own can be seen throughout his culinary experience worldwide.

Chef Delourneaux has worked throughout the world, including New York, California, Singapore, and Bermuda, where he worked with various renowned international luxury hotel chains including The Ritz-Carlton, Fairmont, and Hilton Hotels luxury brands. While abroad, he was nominated for Executive Pastry Chef of the Year at the 14th World Gourmet Series Awards of Excellence in Asia. Locally, he redesigned the brunch menu at Maestro in The Ritz-Carlton Tysons Corner, which was named the best restaurant in 2003-04 by The Washington Post. He was the creative mind behind the grand dessert line-up for the 64th Annual Golden Globe Awards while heading the team at The Beverly Hilton. Chef Delourneaux was also part of the opening team at the idyllic The Grand Del Mar Resort, where he meticulously rolled out the desserts menu for all dining outlets. At the award-winning luxury resort, The Greenbrier, in the heart of the White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, he opened the Casino Club.

Powell’s expertise includes management of regionally renowned restaurants, where he has cultivated a deep knowledge of the industry. Most recently, Powell served as a general manager in the Bryan Voltaggio Restaurant Group, overseeing their popular brands. He was the Beverage Director of the acclaimed Central Michel Richard where he operated a vast beverage program with over 300 wines as well as a full cocktail and bar program.
