Sagamore Spirit Named Official Spirit of Light City Baltimore

From our friends at Sagamore Spirit...

Sagamore Spirit, a new Baltimore-based whiskey company, announced yesterday that it will be the official spirit sponsor of Light City Baltimore, running from March 31 through April 8, 2017, Sagamore Spirit will be used in the event’s signature cocktail, determined by a cocktail competition held by the Baltimore Bartenders’ Guild.

Light City Baltimore transforms the Baltimore waterfront into an amazing sight of light, music and innovation. The 1.5 mile art walk from the Inner Harbor to Harbor East is all free, accessible and open to the public from 7 PM - 11 PM (Sunday through Thursday) and 7 PM - 12 AM (Friday and Saturday.) Light City Baltimore, launched by the Baltimore Office of Promotions and The Arts in 2016, is the first large scale, international light festival in the United States and welcomed over 400,000 during their inaugural event. This year’s event will feature over 50 attractions including illuminated sculptures, projections, interactive technologies, performances, concerts, food vendors and a designated children’s area.

“We couldn’t be more excited to bring Sagamore Spirit to the people of Baltimore,” said Brian Treacy, President of Sagamore Spirit. “Light City Baltimore is a great way for us to interact with our Baltimore supporters and let them taste a little bit of Baltimore in every sip of Sagamore.”

Last year, the official Light City cocktail was the Blue Hour, created with Van Gogh gin, grapefruit liqueur, lime juice, cardamom bitters and tonic by B&O American Brasserie’s Eric Fooy. Sagamore Spirit will provide a local spin on the event’s signature drink this year, being a local whiskey brand with a growing footprint in the regional and national market. Sagamore Spirit currently has two types of rye whiskey available in the market: their signature 83 proof and a cask strength rye whiskey, typically between 111 and 113 proof. Sagamore Spirit can currently be found in select bars, restaurants and liquor stores in Maryland, DC, Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Virginia.

Sagamore Spirit Straight Rye Whiskey is an American whiskey with a unique mash bill and proofing process. The distilling team blends two different straight rye whiskies - a high rye and a low rye - and then adds spring-fed water, from Kevin Plank’s Sagamore Farm, to create an 83 proof Maryland-style rye whiskey. Sagamore drives this water 22 miles from the limestone spring at Sagamore Farm to their bottling facility at City Garage in Port Covington. 100 percent of Sagamore Rye is cut to proof with this distinct water.

The long awaited Sagamore Spirit distillery is nearing completion later this spring. The distillery includes a 22,000 square-foot distillery building, a 27,000 square-foot processing center and a 120-foot Sagamore Farm water tower. Sagamore Spirit expects to welcome more than 100,000 visitors annually at its retail and visitor center for daily tours and tastings. The Sagamore Spirit distillery campus will also include a two-story restaurant and event space.
