Bastille Restaurant Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary

From our friends at Bastille Restaurant & Wine Bar...

Joyeux Anniversaire Bastille!

It was back in 2006 that Christophe and Michelle Poteaux’s dream of a restaurant of their own was realized. From buffing the floors to hanging the curtains, their Bastille restaurant was put together by hand... a labor of love.

Fast forward 10 years later, Christophe and Michelle have had one wedding, two children and have a restaurant that is among the most beloved in their Old Town Virginia neighborhood. September is Bastille’s tenth anniversary month, and Christophe and Michelle have planned a variety of events to celebrate.

Among the celebrations will be a very special foie gras dinner on September 14th, beginning at 6:30 PM. The five course meal will be priced at $125 including wines ($85 without wine pairings.) The menu includes Duck prosciutto wrapped black mission fig, foie gras cromesqui, and duck fat-espelette popcorn paired with Gewürztraminer as an prelude; foie gras torchon with five-spices poached pear, brioche French toast and “Sauternes”gelee with Domaine de Souch, Jurancon Moelleux 2009 as an appetizer. Following are a ‘surf and turf’ course of Lobster Tajine and roasted Foie Gras with Moroccan-inspired spiced summer vegetable stew paired with Dirler-Cadé, Grand Cru Kessler, Pinot Gris (Alsace) 2010 and “Tournedos Rossini-” grass-fed Angus filet mignon, foie gras mousse, truffle demi-glace, royal trumpet mushrooms, pommes rissolées in duck fat, and glazed carrots with Chateau Moulin Noir, Lussac-Saint Emilion 2010. The final course by pastry chef Michelle is Crème Caramel au foie gras with apricots, pistachio and honey-cardamom tuile with Muscat de Beaumes de Venise.

On September 21st, Bastille's message to diners is “Let ‘Em Eat (anniversary) Cake.” There will be a complementary slice of Chef Michelle’s specially baked vanille bavarois,  almond dacquoise,  orange date puree, banyuls caramel and candied almonds, with dulcey chocolate garnish celebratory anniversary cake for all.

On September 28th at 6:30, the Chefs Poteaux present a “Best of Bastille” menu featuring some of the favorite dishes of the restaurant’s decade long history, such as Escabeche of sea scallop; roasted Moullard duck breast, red-wine pomegranate gastrique, mushrooms, figs, pears and shallots; and Roasted Rockfish filet, preserved lemon sauce, zucchini, fennel and leek fricassee not to mention Chef Michelle’s special surprise dessert. The four-course menu is priced at $119 with wine pairings included; $79 without wine pairings.

Bastille is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11:30 AM until 10 PM and Sunday 11:30 AM until 9 PM serving brunch, lunch, dinner and all day dining with café and bar menu offered. The restaurant is located in The Asher at 606 N. Fayette Street in Alexandria, Virginia, just two blocks from the Braddock Metro.
