GW Men's Basketball to Play Home-and-Home with Miami

From our friends at GW Athletics...

Colonials Will Visit Coral Gables in 2016, Host the Canes in 2017

GW men’s basketball and the University of Miami have agreed to a home-and-home series that will see the Colonials visit Coral Gables in 2016 before the Hurricanes return the trip in 2017, the schools announced on Thursday.

Miami is coming off a 27-8 season in which it advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, while GW won a school-record 28 games and the NIT championship. The agreement will make for five consecutive seasons that the Colonials have faced at least one ACC opponent in non-conference play, with GW holding a 3-1 record dating back to 2013. That year, the Colonials defeated Miami, 71-63, in overtime at the Wooden Legacy in Anaheim, California, on November 28, before topping then-ACC member Maryland on December 8 as part of the BB&T Classic.

In a home-and-home series with Virginia, each team held court as the Cavaliers picked up a victory in 2014 before GW won, 73-68, in the Smith Center last season. Since 2013, GW has a 17-9 record against teams from other power conferences.

GW and Miami have met three times previously and the Colonials have come out on top each time, starting with an 83-81 win in 1971. In 1991, GW took a 78-64 win in the Palm Beach Classic, and the most recent meeting was the aforementioned victory in 2013.

Dates for the games are set for Thursday, December 22, 2016, at Miami, and either December 16 or 17, 2017 in Washington.
