Ambar Introduces New Seasonal Lunch Specials for Summer

Guests Can Take Advantage of Ambar's Signature Healthy Lunch Options with the Addition of New Balkan Dishes

Ambarthe nation’s capital’s first Balkan restaurant, located at 523 8th Street, SE, Washington, DC, is excited to introduce new additions to the lunch menu featuring classic Balkan fare, healthy gluten-free options such as soups, salads, and a tempting array of fifteen open face sandwiches served “European Style with a Balkan Twist” created by Chef Ivan Zivkovic. There are plenty of vegetarian choices and guests can take advantage of Ambar's wallet friendly lunch specials featuring a choice of any two sandwiches along with a glass of house wine, a beer or Ambar signature freshly-squeezed lemonade infused with rosemary or mixed berry lemonade for only $16. Or they can enjoy one signature salad with a glass of house wine, a beer or lemonade for $13. Those with a heartier appetite can add a cup of soup and dessert for $5. The open face sandwiches, soups and salads provide the calorie count of the dish so one can be watchful at lunchtime.

Guests can look forward to newcomers on the menu such as Meat pie, crispy phyllo with beef, pork, and garlic yogurt; Cheese pie, crispy phyllo with cucumber yogurt and ajvar; Ham & Cheese Crepe with gouda, tartar sauce, and panko bread crumbs; Spicy Sausage with green peas and root vegetable stew; Balkan Kebab, beef and pork with spring onions, kajmak, and fries; Summer Pepper with beef and pork, root vegetables, and dill cream, as well as the Chef's Platter with Veal Soup, Balkan Salad, Cheese Pie, Balkan Kebab, and Stuffed Sour Cabbage. New dishes range in price from $8 to $19.


Diners can also anticipate Ambar's signature gluten-free friendly, open-face sandwiches such as Beef Tartar with sun dried tomato butter, spinach, hard-boiled quail egg, and watermelon radish; Vienna Schnitzel with crispy veal, ajvar emulsion, frisee salad tartar sauce, and sun dried tomatoes; Smoked Trout with beet carpaccio, cucumber, dill, and mayo picked jalapeƱo; Wild Forest Mushroom with horseradish dressing, herb-roasted mushrooms, baby arugula, hard boiled quail egg, and red onion, as well as Asparagus with blue cheese kajmak, cherry tomato, hard-boiled quail egg, and crispy prosciutto scallion. Open face sandwiches range in price from $5 to $8.

Signature soups and salads include Zucchini Soup with potato and sun dried tomato; Arugula & Slow Cook Steak with diced prunes, roasted sunflower seeds, cherry tomatoes, and prune balsamic dressing; Mix Green Salad With Shrimp, roasted squash, caramelized red onion, roasted peppers, and pomegranate dressing; Balkan Salad with arugula, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, onion red, yellow bell peppers, cow cheese, and croutons cherry vinaigrette, and Spinach Salad & Fried Chicken with organic baby spinach, celery stalk, carrots, cherry tomato, and horseradish dressing.  Soups and salads range in price from $3 to $11. For a decedent finish guests can indulge in sweet confections such as Capri Cake with raspberries, vanilla pudding, and dolcela hit icing, and Three Chocolate Cake with milk chocolate, white chocolate, dark chocolate, mascarpone, and strawberry yogurt, priced at $5 each.

Ambar is located at 523 8th Street, SE. It's just steps from the Eastern Market Metro, accessible on the Orange, Silver and Blue Lines. Valet parking is available Wednesday through Saturday from 4 PM to close and is priced at $10 per car. The restaurant takes limited reservations and walk-ins are welcome. Ambar serves lunch Monday through Friday from 11 AM to 2 PM, dinner Sunday through Thursday, from 4 PM to 10 PM, and Friday and Saturday, from 4 PM to 11 PM.
