Men's Basketball: Army West Point 65 American 59

Late Comeback Not Enough for Men's Basketball on Saturday

Freshman Delante Jones finished with 18 points, but American couldn't complete a late rally and fell 65-59 to Army West Point on Saturday at Bender Arena.

Senior Jesse Reed had nine points and classmate Marko Vasic finished with seven points. The Eagles shot 37 percent from the field and made nine three-point baskets.

Kevin Ferguson (#31) led all players with 20 points & 11 boards

Army's Kevin Ferguson had a game-high 20 points and 14 rebounds to lead the Black Knights to the win. Kyle Wilson and Tanner Plomb finished in double figures with Wilson adding 14 and Plomb 11.

AU held Army's Tanner Plomb to 11 points

The Eagles took a quick 7-0 lead before Army stormed back and took a 12-9 lead on a layup by Ferguson at 10:22. The Black Knights finished the half on an 8-0 run after the Eagles went scoreless in the final 7:47. Army led 24-15 at the break with 20 points inside.

Andrija Matic (#35) gives chase

Army pushed its lead to 11 (31-20) four minutes into the second on a layup by John Emezie. American battled back with a 10-2 run to cut the deficit to three, 33-30, with 13 minutes left.

Freshman James Washington (#3) added 6 points & 3 assists

The Black Knights regained the double-digit advantage and led 46-34 at 9:28 on a trey by Wilson.


Once again, the Eagles soared back with into the contest and went on a 13-5 run culminating with a long-range three by Jones. American's defense kicked in, but a late turnover and fouls put the Black Knights on the line.

American will stay at home and host Lafayette on Wednesday evening at 7:30 PM. The game can be seen live on Comcast Mid-Atlantic.
