Eagles Fall to Boston U. on Wednesday, 61-50

Freshmen James Washington and Andrija Matic combined for 25 points, but a strong Boston University squad pulled away with an 11-point victory, 61-50, on Wednesday at Bender Arena.

Washington's 15 points led the Eagles in 37 minutes. Matic set a new best with 10 points off the bench on 4-of-8 shooting with six rebounds. American shot 35 percent from the field and made nine three-pointers.

Andrija Matic's jumper puts AU up 14-11

Eric Fanning had 14 points for Boston U. and was one of three to finish in double figures. John Papale and Blaise Mbargoba had 13 and 11 points, respectively.

The Terriers shot 46 percent and got to the line 23 times. Both sides finished with 35 rebounds.
American led early in the contest, 12-8, off a jumper by Matic with 12:55. Three minutes later, the Eagles increased the lead to 17-11 of a trey by Washington.

Jalen Rhea (#21) scored 6 points with 2 steals in 35 minutes

Boston tied the game 17-all on free throws by Fanning, and then pushed a 7-0 run to take a 24-17 advantage with 5:38 left.

James Washington (#3) led all players with 15 points

Late in the half, Washington drained a three with 2:19 left, followed by a Charlie Jones buzzer-beater off an inbounds play.

Jesse Reed added 4 points & 8 rebounds

Boston led the remainder of the way and took its largest lead late in the contest.
