Men's Basketball Falls to Stony Brook, 86-68, on Thursday Evening

Three Players scored in double figures for American, but Stony Brook's Jameel Warney led all scorers with 22 points to propel the Seawolves over the Eagles, 86-68, in non-conference men's basketball on Thursday night at Bender Arena.

Freshman Delante Jones finished with a team-best 15 points in 29 minutes. The rookie shot 5-of-7 from the floor, including 4-of-5 from the outside. Senior Jesse Reed added 14 points in 40 minutes and junior Paris Maragkos had 12 points and four assists.

Stony Brook shot 60 percent from the floor, compared to 53.8 percent from the Eagles. The visitors took the rebounding advantage, 31-20 and scored 44 points in the paint.

Jesse Reed (#14) slams home 2 of his 14 points

American took an early four-point lead, 13-9, on a layup by junior Charlie Jones. Stony Brook took a 13-12 lead with 14:36 left on a triple by Lucas Woodhouse. The Seawolves wouldn't relinquish the led the rest of the way.

Marko Vasic (#5) dished out 3 assists

Stony Brook led by 12 (46-34) at the break with Warney leading the way with 12 points on 6-of-6 from the field. He would connect on his next four in the second half before missing two late in the contest.

Jameel Warney (#20) led all players with 22 points (10-12 shooting)

Stony Brook took its largest lead, 74-45, with 11:32 left on a tip-in by Bryan Sekunda.

Halftime entertainment

Junior Leon Tolksdorf had eight points in the second frame and was impressive in 11 minutes. Classmate Gabe Brown also made his season debut with two points in eight minutes. Both sides shot over 50 percent in the final 20 minutes.

American will host Maryland Eastern Shore on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 PM. The game can be see live on Comcast Mid-Atlantic and also on the Patriot League Network.
