Junior Middle Blocker Earns Second Consecutive Honor from AVCA, Advances to All-America Ballot

George Washington volleyball junior Chidima Osuchkwu has been named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-East Region First Team for the second consecutive season, the organization announced on Tuesday.

The award marks the fourth postseason honor of the season for Osuchukwu, who was also named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team, Academic All-Conference team and All-Championship team last month.

Osuchukwu remains the fourth player in program history to earn an AVCA All-Region selection and is now just the second player to earn the award in multiple seasons. She joins GW Athletic Hall of Famers Svetlana Vtyruina (Mideast Region, 1992-94), Liu Li (Mideast Region, 1994) and Sarah Hokom (Northeast Region, 2003) in esteemed company.

An Atlantic 10 record six-time Player of the Week in 2015, Osuchukwu concluded the season as the conference leader, and among the nation's top 10, in both total blocks (168, 7th in NCAA) and blocks per set (1.51, 9th in NCAA). She also garnered final conference ranks of fourth in total kills (416), third in kills per set (3.75), points (521.5) and points per set (4.70) and sixth in hitting percentage (.332).

The Virginia Beach, Virginia, native helped the Colonials to an overall record of 21-11, the team's second consecutive 20-win season, and an appearance in the Atlantic 10 Championship semifinals.

Osuchukwu now advances to the AVCA All-America ballot. The All-America teams will be announced on Dec. 16. Last season, Osuchukwu was named All-America Honorable Mention.
