GW Volleyball Downs Duquesne, 3-0, for Season Sweep

Osuchukwu and Davidson tally 11 kills each to pace attack

The George Washington volleyball team opened its final weekend of the regular season with a 3-0 sweep of Duquesne on Friday afternoon at the Charles E. Smith Center. Set scores were 25-13, 25-23, 25-21.

With the win, GW (19-10, 8-5 A-10) earns the regular-season sweep over Duquesne (13-14, 7-6 A-10) and picks up a key conference win in a final weekend when a number of matches with Atlantic 10 Championship seeding implications will be played.

Chidima Osuchukwu (#8) led GW with a .391 hitting percentage

The Colonials hit .394 (14k-1e-33a) while forcing 11 attack errors in the first set en route to a 25-13 win. GW opened the match on a 7-2 run before weathering a mid-set surge to pull away down the stretch to take a 1-0 lead in the match.

Sophomore Aaliya Davidson (#11) led all players with 11 kills

The teams battled through eight ties and three lead changes in the second set but the Colonials rallied to earn a 25-23 win and a commanding 2-0 lead in the match. The Dukes led by a score of 21-16 late in the frame but the Colonials responded out of a timeout with a 5-1 run to get within one point of the lead at 22-21. After a Duquesne timeout, the teams traded points until a tie at 23-23 before an attack error followed by a kill from sophomore Aaliya Davidson clinched the 25-23 victory.

Christina Porada led GW with 16 digs

The third set was close throughout with nine tie scores, the last of which coming at 20-20 late in the frame. The Colonials had led by a score of 20-16, but four straight points by the Dukes pulled them even. After a GW timeout, the Colonials closed on a 4-1 run to clinch the match.

Junior Chidima Osuchukwu added 11 kills

Junior Chidima Osuchukwu posted a strong all-around match with 11 kills on a .391 attack percentage along with five blocks (two solo, three assists). Davidson also finished with 11 kills in addition to six digs and three block assists.

Senior Maddy Doyle (#17)

Sophomore Christina Porada and senior Maddy Doyle each patrolled the back line and tallied 16 and 11 digs, respectively.

Jordan Timmer (#18) led all players with 38 assists

Senior Jordan Timmer facilitated a balanced attack with 38 assists in addition to three kills and four digs.

Senior Maggie Skjelbred (#12) added 7 kills & 2 block assists

Freshman Hanna Justesen picked up seven kills and nine digs while senior Maggie Skjelbred added seven kills and two block assists. Freshman Kelsey Clark contributed six kills (.357) with two block assists.

GW will conclude the regular season on Saturday night against La Salle at the Smith Center. First serve is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
