Union Market Launches Lab 1270 Today

From our friends at Union Market...

Retail PLUS Concept Showcases Creatives and UM District Discoveries

Shop it. Taste it. Give it. Launch it!

TodayUnion Market launches a retail plus concept shop Lab 1270 (1270 5th Street, NE, Washington, DC), a space where national retailers and members of the DC creative community have combined forces to form a lively retail, experience, and work space. Located on 5th Street catty-corner to the market, the space offers market-goers various opportunities to support established and emerging retailers and artists just in time for the holidays. For the artists and small business owners, it is an opportunity to cross fertilize best practices in running and launching their businesses as they take their brand to the next level.

Washingtonians can shop established brands, join a motorcycle club, try a Craft Kombucha bar, make a t-shirt, be part of a live #ACreativeDC art installation, learn to code, see the results of DC public Library’s Fab Lab and support the young artists of the KIPP school. We have also put together a shopping list of the best that the Union Market District has to offer for the holidays.

The space is launching with the following confirmed November vendors: Ann Mashburn CapsuleCraft Kombucha, Dunn Lewis MCLisa Shirk, Living Threads, Master Williams, Niko+Ava, Ron David, S3 ActiveSouth BlockThursday Boots, and Time Off, among others. Additional vendors and details to-be-announced.

Union Market has designated approximately 50 to 200 square feet for each of Lab 1270’s rotating and semi-permanent retailers. Holiday activations include portrait sessions with Salt & Sundry and photographer Emma McAlary, mistletoe giveaways, gift wrapping, wreath and garland workshops, and more.

Photographer Gary “Master" Williams is one of Lab 1270’s featured artists and believes fervently in the new retail plus concept. Williams says, “In today’s society, I think the foundational concept of community has been lost. And sometimes, in large cities such as DC, it’s hard to develop that authentic community and support due to the faster pace of life. Union Market has done well in building a space that not only provides a place for the community to gather, but invites and welcomes them too. It’s a beautiful thing to witness and I am excited to be a part of it.”

The venue will also house pop-up dinner events, yoga classes and various activations throughout the winter.
