Heartfelt Welcome and Celebration for BIG STONE GAP in Virginia

From our friends at Picturehouse...

On Opening Weekend of Picturehouse’s BIG STONE GAP, the stars and director, who hails from Big Stone Gap, traveled to Virginia for a day-long celebration of the film on Saturday, October 10. Entirely shot in Big Stone Gap, Ashley Judd, Patrick Wilson, Jenna Elfman, Paul Wilson, Erika Coleman, writer/director Adriana Trigiani, and a cast of hundreds of extras who appear in the film returned for the reunion. Patrick and his brother Paul’s ancestors go back five generations in Big Stone Gap.

Hosted by an organizing committee of local officials, citizens and businesses, the day kicked off with a pancake breakfast, continued with the Jack MacChesney/Patrick Wilson 5K Run, and featured a parade through the town with actors in period cars from the 1970s. Stars from the film took part in a ‘Meet the Actors’ reception where they put their hands to cement to commemorate the day. Attendees participated in town walking tours that visited locations from the book and film, as well as a celebratory flower show. Adriana Trigiani was the mistress of ceremonies to a crowd-lined street at the Red Carpet Extravaganza where she gave thanks to the town of Big Stone Gap. The day’s events were capped off by a spectacular fireworks display to an estimated attendance of 5,000.

Adriana Trigiani comments on the event: “The celebration in Big Stone Gap was truly a family affair, a homecoming… and has made me fall in love with my hometown all over again. I can’t possibly thank the people of Big Stone Gap enough for their creativity, imagination and passion, both while filming and in the months that followed. I hope my film and the weekend events tell people around the globe about the heart and soul of the real Big Stone Gap.”

BIG STONE GAP is Now Playing in Select Theaters across the country.
