A Lifesize Stand-In for Pope Francis Will Be at Ella's for Selfie Opportunities with Prizes Awarded
Ella’s Wood Fired Pizza owner and chef, Ed Hanson, is stoked about Pope Francis’ historic visit to his neighborhood. He has crafted the Pope’s Pizza which will be featured as a special from September 21st to 26th at his popular Penn Quarter restaurant, located at 610 9th Street NW, Washington, DC 20004, just one block from St. Patrick’s Church, where Pope Francis will be offering a blessing on Thursday, September 24th.
Hanson’s special pizza is inspired by the gold and white banded Vatican flag. It incorporates fresh mozzarella, ricotta, and vine-ripened yellow tomatoes marinated in olive oil, garlic and basil atop his signature crust, which is crisp, slightly chewy, the smoke-kissed foundation for the pie, which is priced at $15. Paired with a Birra Moretti, the classic Italian brew, the 10” Pope’s Pizza will sell for $20. A 7” version will be featured for $6 at Ella’s happy hour in the bar that week, from 4-7 PM daily.
Additionally, Ella’s patrons are invited to take selfies with the life-size cutout of the Pope Francis, and tweet it to @ellaspizzadc #Ella’sPopePizza for a chance to win a $50 Ella’s gift certificate. Two prizes will be awarded. One for Best Selfie and the other for Most Selfies with the Pope. Winners will be contacted on September 27th to claim their prizes.
Located at 610 9th Street NW, Washington, DC 20004, Ella’s is accessible via metro, one block from the Gallery Place/Chinatown Metro Station, accessible on the Red, Yellow and Green Lines and two blocks from Metro Center Metro Station, accessible on the Blue and Orange Lines.
