The Beginning of Elevation Burger:
In the early 2000s Hans Hess was a young, legislative assistant on Capitol Hill from Carmel, California who was researching the dangers posed to people by the extensive use of antibiotics in beef and chicken. He wondered why there couldn’t be a better alternative to fast-food burgers for people who cared about food quality and their health. An accomplished amateur chef, Hess and his wife, April began experimenting at home with burgers made from grass-fed, free-range, organic beef they ground themselves and were amazed at the difference from what had been the burger industry standard from time immemorial. Humanely-raised beef with no hormones, antibiotics, steroid, pesticides or GMOs not only eliminated several health risks but had much better  flavor.

Hans and April perfected their recipe for the burgers and then turned to the problem of the obligatory side dish, the French fry. They wanted a lighter and healthier fry so determined to find a way to cook hand-cut fresh potatoes in heart-healthy olive oil. Due to certain qualities of olive oil under extreme heat, this had never been successfully accomplished on a commercial scale before. Hess had earned his BS in Physics from California Polytechnic State University so applied his expertise to the problem. After much trial, the award-winning Elevation Burger “Fresh Fry” was perfected.

On September 19, 2005, the very first Elevation Burger opened its doors in Falls Church and quickly became a favorite of the locals. Within a few years, loyal customers from all over the U.S. asked Hess to consider allowing them to expand the brand by franchising restaurants in their cities. A franchised location opened in Arlington, Virginia followed by one in Austin, Texas. Soon, there were Elevation burgers in ten states and six foreign countries. In the ten years since its founding, Elevation Burger has received numerous “Best of” awards and accolades from food critics of some of the world’s top publications.
