Blue Duck Lounge to Debut an All-American Cheese Flight This July in Honor of America’s Independence Day

Park Hyatt Washington is honoring America’s Independence Day with an All-American Cheese Flight, which will be available exclusively at Blue Duck Lounge throughout the month of July. The All-American Cheese Flight is priced at $30 per person (tax and gratuity excluded), and includes three pre-selected artisanal American cheeses (one-ounce tastes) and three suggested American drink pairings (three-ounce pours). Sophie Slesinger, cheese specialist for the award-winning Blue Duck Tavern and Blue Duck Lounge, will pre-select the cheeses while the restaurant’s leading sommeliers will select the suggested beer or wine pairings.

The All-American Cheese Flight will change weekly to honor the finest farmers and purveyors throughout the country. Guests can anticipate American cheeses such as Summer Snow (sheep), Woodcock Farm, VT; Elsa Mae (cow), Calkins Creamery, PA and; Chevrotin (goat), Seal Cove Farm, ME. Sample American wine pairings include: Honig Sauvignon Blanc; Tablas Creek Rhone Blend, and; Elizabeth Spencer Grenache Rose. Sample American beer pairings include: Flying Dog Dead Rise; Port City Optimal Wit and; Goose Island Sofie. This special offering will be available nightly from 5:30 PM to 10:30 PM.

A native Washingtonian and second generation Sicilian, Slesinger has been nationally recognized for her knowledge and creativity with cheese. She was appointed cheese specialist of Blue Duck Tavern and Blue Duck Lounge in October 2014. Slesinger began learning the art of cheese in New York while working as the program director at Saxelby Cheese, under Cheesemonger Anne Saxelby from 2011-2013. Thanks to the nomination by a chef/client of Saxelby’s Cheese, Slesinger was named to the "30-Under-30: New York City's Food and World Up-And-Comers" list by Zagat in the summer of 2013. After her two-year stint in the Big Apple, Slesinger accepted a position as cheesemonger at GCDC in Washington, DC. Here she selected the restaurant’s featured cheeses, crafted the evening menu, and developed a weekly program focused exclusively on cheese education until her appointment at Park Hyatt Washington.
