From our friends at the Red Bull Global Rallycross...

Second Annual Red Bull Global Rallycross Washington, D.C. Presented by Volkswagen to Take Place August 14-15

Red Bull Global Rallycross is thrilled to announce that its Washington, D.C. event, presented by Volkswagen, will be returning to RFK Stadium on August 14-15 for the 2015 season, after making its area debut in 2014. One of the most dynamic forms of four-wheel racing, the series features 600 horsepower cars tearing around a part tarmac, part dirt track, drifting around sharp turns and flying over a 70-foot jump.
“Washington, D.C. proved to be one of our most successful events during the 2014 season, and we’re incredibly excited about returning to the Nation’s capital this year,” said Red Bull GRC CEO Colin Dyne. “Last year, in our first race ever in the city, we were able to set the attendance records for a standalone event, proof that the area is hungry for more racing action. We look forward to competing in such a fantastic city for years to come.”

Last year’s event was only the second time in 90 years that a major-league motorsports competition took place in the Washington, D.C. area. In celebration of this fact driver Rhys Millen took to the city streets, drifting his 600-horsepower Supercar past numerous national landmarks including the Washington Monument and the Capitol Building

In the race itself, Patrik Sandell took the Supercar victory, holding off Formula 1 veteran Nelson Piquet Jr., who finished second and eventual 2014 Supercar Champion Joni Wiman, who placed third. All three of last year’s podium finishers are expected to return to this year’s event.

Also competing will be 2014 Supercar runner-up and international rally superstar Ken Block; two-time Red Bull GRC champion and “Top Gear” host Tanner Foust; five-time X Games rallycross medalist and freestyle motocross legend Brian Deegan; and 20-time X Games medalist Bucky Lasek. In addition, the Lites class will race its own championship round during the weekend.

2015 marks the return of Volkswagen as presenting sponsor of the event. The manufacturer, headquartered in nearby Herndon, VA, campaigns two cars under the Volkswagen Andretti Rallycross banner for Foust and two-time X Games gold medalist Scott Speed. The team has introduced a new Beetle GRC that will compete in the 2015 season, packing 560 horsepower as well as several technical advancements...
