Events DC Hosts Legendary Events at RFK Stadium

The 2015 World Police and Fire Games Opening Ceremony and Foo Fighters’ 20th Anniversary Extravaganza Activate the RFK Stadium Campus Over the Next Two Weekends

Tonight, RFK Stadium will host more than 12,000 first responder athletes and other public safety agencies from all over the world for the World Police & Fire Games Opening Ceremony, beginning at 6 PM. Approximately 20,000 fans will gather for the ceremony at the iconic stadium which will include a parade of athletes, the lighting of the torch, the Athletes Oath and a post-ceremony musical concert celebration.

From June 26 to July 5, first responder athletes and other public safety agencies representing 70 countries will compete in 61 sporting events, in 53 different venues across the nation’s capital region. With approximately 12,000 hotel rooms reserved and an expected 30,000 visitors to the region, the 2015 Games will generate an estimated $60 to $80 million for the greater Washington, DC area during a traditionally slower period for the city. During the July 4 weekend, RFK Stadium will play host to the Foo Fighters’ 20th anniversary blowout. To mark the band’s milestone, the celebration will include an all-day affair featuring a BBQ, motorcycle rally and fireworks display at the Stadium Campus. The musical extravaganza will feature an all-star line-up of Buddy Guy, Gary Clark Jr., Heart, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, LL Cool J featuring DJ Z-Trip, Trouble Funk, Trombone Shorty and more.
